Fighting for every inch

I decided to paint the office. This office has had several “I’m gonna….” moments. Each one is, to be honest, a stopgap until I can figure out what to do more permanently. About six months after we moved in I decided to assemble some cheap shelves to hold my processed vintage stuff… for now. About eight months ago I decided to install wall shelves… for now. All my temporary organization seems to fail, miserably. As you can see, things only get worse the … Read more…

New sun room!

As promised, I painted the sun room first in my new color scheme. I am so happy with the result! The paint is dark but with all the windows the room actually feels more defined. My homemade Roman shades also look great, as does my recently painted couch and mid-century chair. Everything has pulled together just wonderfully. For a recap, here’s the before in a sort of brownish pink color – not terrible, just not really a color that goes well with our … Read more…

Picking colors for new paint… again

You can see the stripes are gone and the creamy color I used on top of my 3 layers of primer looks great! Our free mirror that came with the house in its original place (the silver mirror that I thought I’d put there made its way back to … Read more…

Paint it… then paint it again just in case

This is a little late, but in early November I volunteered my house for invasion when I invited my extended family over for Christmas. Nothing makes you think “Gotta get the house in order!” like knowing you’re about to have a few dozen visitors. Anyway, when we moved in we decided the painting priority would go something like this: The living room (dear lord, that living room definitely did not work with our furniture) The dining room The hall / stairwell Whatever … Read more…

Ugh, stripes.

In the day-of-closing post, I posted a photo of the dining area. It has stripes. They have become the bane of my existence. There was a little prep work to do before I got started painting. Normal stuff: taking down the previous owner’s curtains, filling nail holes, discovering why we got a free mirror… It was covering up a little junction box. I later discovered the third matching sconce tucked away in a drawer but I doubt I’ll use it, everything is … Read more…
